Feline Breed Nutrition

Just for British Shorthair
tailor-made nutrition addressing the breed’s incredible characteristics

The British Shorthair cat, as the name suggests, originates from Great Britain – and if you know Lewis Carroll’s ‘Alice in Wonderland’, you will recognise the smiling Cheshire Cat as the British Shorthair!

The breed's origins

The British Shorthair is a very particular type of cat. Selectively bred over many generations the British Shorthair was featured in the first ever London cat show.

1865 saw the publication of Lewis Carroll’s “Alice in Wonderland” – The Cheshire Cat, one of the most famous characters in the story, is an English street cat – just like the British Shorthair’s ancestors.

Fun facts

In a word, compact!

The British Shorthair’s sturdy, heavy and muscular body means she demands much more from her joints and needs specifi c nutrition to keep her in shape. This is a solid powerful cat, but the weight should be due to muscle, not fat. The right nutrition and rationing are particularly important.

Look out for a big heart

This breed has a predisposition to cardiac issues. Dietary management is an important part in the maintenance of a healthy heart!

Chewing and dental hygiene

The British Shorthair has a massive round jaw, and a tendency to swallow food without chewing.
